Our Story News and Blog Supporting Your Mental Health as a Parent Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that how we’re feeling matters, not just as individuals, but within our families too. For many parents, day-to-day life can feel full and demanding. Whether it’s financial pressure, work, family responsibilities, or simply trying to keep on top of everything, it’s easy for things to feel overwhelming. If you’re feeling like things are getting on top of you, you’re not alone – and even small, practical changes can help make things feel more manageable. At FTCT, we understand how pressure at home can impact both parents and children. When families receive practical support, it can help ease some of that strain and create more space for calm and stability in everyday life. 5 simple ways to support your mental health as a parent These tips are designed to be realistic, achievable, and easy to build into everyday life. 1. Lower the pressure on yourself It’s easy to feel like you need to do everything perfectly, but that isn’t realistic, especially during stressful times. Focus on what truly matters. Some days, getting through the basics is enough. Remember to be kind to yourself. 2. Take small moments to reset Even short breaks can help regulate stress. Stepping outside for fresh air, going for a short walk, or simply pausing for a few quiet minutes can help you reset. Meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises can help calm the mind during stressful periods, too. Small pauses throughout the day can have a big impact on how you feel. 3. Keep routines simple You don’t need a perfect schedule, but a simple routine can help bring structure and predictability to your day. Even small consistencies, like regular mealtimes or a calm bedtime routine, can reduce stress for both you and your child. 4. Talk to someone you trust You don’t have to manage everything alone. Talking to a friend, family member, or support service can help you feel less isolated. Sometimes just sharing how you’re feeling can lift some of the weight. 5. Look at ways to ease pressure For many families, stress is closely linked to financial pressure or everyday costs. Exploring what support is available, whether through charities, community services, or grants, can help reduce that burden and create more stability at home. FTCT may be able to support eligible families with grants for essential items, helping to ease some of that pressure and make daily life more manageable.
