How FTCT Support Helped a Child with Sensory Challenges

When a mother and her husband needed sensory items to support their autistic son, they took the important step of reaching out to FTCT for assistance. Specialist sensory equipment can be costly, and funding for these life-changing items isn’t always easy for families to access.

Thanks to a grant, they were able to replace broken bedroom furniture, creating a space where their sons can play and sleep comfortably. The grant also provided a weighted blanket and bean bag for their autistic son, making a remarkable difference. With these items, he has been able to sleep independently for the first time, transforming daily life for the family.

Asking for help isn’t always easy, but this family says the experience was overwhelmingly positive. Receiving the grant brought a sense of relief and joy to their household. How FTCT can help with sensory and additional needs

For families raising neurodivergent children, accessing sensory support and specialist resources can be transformative. FTCT grants are designed to help families afford items recommended by professionals that support children’s development, comfort, and daily routines.

Sensory support for everyday life

Weighted blankets, fidget toys, or light tubes
Adaptive or sensory clothing
SEN-adapted iPads or computers
Speech and language resources
Physical exercise equipment such as trampolines, wobble boards, or bikes
Adaptive children’s bedroom furniture
Mobility aids like pushchairs, strollers, or trikes

These items can help children feel calmer, more focused, and more confident in daily routines.

Therapeutic support

Note: FTCT grants do not fund assessments, only items or therapy recommended by a professional.

Who can apply

You may be eligible if you:

Care for a child under 18 with neurodivergent needs, and
Work, or have recently worked, in the UK fashion, textile, or fabric industry.

FTCT supports families experiencing financial pressure due to:

Illness or injury
Loss of income or reduced hours
Bereavement or family changes
Rehousing after unsafe or unstable living conditions
Ongoing financial challenges
