This guidance page is for parents who do not claim Child Benefit for their child.

Child Benefit is the quickest way to provide evidence you have parental responsibility for the child/ren named in your application. However there are alternative documents you can provide if you are a parent living apart, step-parent or a parent with the right to work in the UK but no NRPF.

Use this page for guidance on which document would best suit your situation.

Guidance for parents with Right To Work but No Recourse To Public Funds

Applicants with the right to work in the UK but who do not have recourse to public funds are still eligible for our grants.
If this is the case for your family, please provide the following documents as proof of parental responsibility when you submit your application form:

  • A copy of your residency permit
  • A copy of your permission to work permit
  • AND a copy of your children’s passports
Guidance for parents who have a shared care arrangement with their children.

We use child benefit as evidence of parental responsibility for the children named in a grant application.

For parents who have a shared care arrangement or are unable to provide proof of child benefit because it is being claimed by the other parent, we can still support, but require alternative evidence instead.

Please note: the person applying for a grant must be the parent with the fashion and textile employment history.

Proving parental responsibility

If you are unable to provide proof of child benefit, please provide one of these documents, clearly showing your name and the name of the children you are applying for:

  • Their birth certificate
  • A letter issued by the NHS, e.g. a hospital or your child’s doctor
  • A letter issued by their school or other educational provision
  • A letter issued by the Family Court that relates to the shared care arrangement
  • A letter issued by the Child Maintenance Service relating to child maintenance
Step-Parents

We can consider applications from step-parents with a fashion and textile employment history, providing you are currently living with the children of your partner.

You will need to provide proof of child benefit being received by your partner by submitting a bank statement showing the child benefit being paid in.
